Definitions
Dummy Pawn Rule: It was legal from 1862 for about 30 years that a pawn reaching 8th rank did not have to promote. A "dummy pawn" is not a fairy piece, just a regular pawn which happens to be on 8th rank, and as a result can't move. If the pawn gets shifted to another rank (e.g. Circe) then it can move as normal again. Not to be confused with the fairy piece "dummy", which is a type of unit which has no movement capability.
